SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) _ A Springfield police officer who was shot in the head last month is out of intensive care and walking with the help of a walker.
Springfield Police Chief Paul Williams said Wednesday officer Aaron Pearson has made “amazing” progress since he was shot Jan. 26 while investigating suspicious activity.
Williams told The Springfield News-Leader Pearson also is now able to recognize family members. He has a wife and two children.
The city of Springfield is paying Pearson’s salary and medical bills but the community has also raised money through donations and fundraisers.
Thirty-two-year-old Joshua Hagood is charged with first-degree assault, armed criminal action and unlawful possession of a weapon in Pearson’s shooting. He has pleaded not guilty and is being held in jail without bond.
